Proof that Social Studies NEEDS to be taught in Elementary School...

I gave my students a pop quiz at the beg. of the school year asking them to draw in and label as many states as they could, along with Canada, Mexico, the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. I am certain we are going to have to seriously focus on studying the U.S. map this year. You'll see one girl drew on the map upside down. :0 Yikes!

What's so flipping funny is that they didn't even know what direction was up when filling out the map. That is frickin hilarious. And scary.
Good luck!

That's funny and sad all at the same time. So U.S. geography isn't taught in elementary school anymore? I remember in fourth grade having to do this report on a state - using encloypedias, tourism info etc. and we learned the state capitals and locations.

I am TERRIBLE at this stuff, so I feel for them. My school did an awful job at this stuff even though fourth grade was nothing but maps
